Edward Heath (right) remained Prime Minister until 1974 and Harold Wilson resigned in 1976, the year when revelations about the private life of Jeremy Thorpe amazed the nation and started his decline into terminal disgrace. Thorpe’s head, the only one entirely surrounded by black, is an especially impenetrable mask. Collectors of modern British postcards regard this little masterpiece as a classic.
